Firesyl 3900 is a remarkable fire resistive coating, designed to protect steel structures against the tremendous heat produced during a fire. Firesyl 3900 is a subliming material. Sublimation is a process which uses massive amounts of thermal energy in effecting a transformation of a solid material directly into gases without an intermediate liquefying stage. One such example of this process is dry ice. This material utilize this process. Product sublime like dry ice, but at higher temperatures they maintain the temperature of the substrate at the temperature of sublimation, during the chemical reaction, thus creating a counterflow of gases to block the heat input of the fire. This coating is also intumescent and expand in the presence of fire creating a char layer barrier that protects the steel surfaces from heat.
