| Hard enamel (Cloisonne) is a typical Chinese handy craft that can be traced back to Yuan Dynasty. The elaborate processes of hard enamel involves: base metal forming, enamel infilling, firing, polishing, plating whose details are as below: - Base metal forming: Copper is the most commonly used base metal for hard enamel. Various designs are converted into patterns and then steel moulds. The base metal with design configurations are formed by die striking with moulds with the designs. Areas to be in-filled with hard enamel are always made recessed. - Firing: After infilling, enamel powder has to be fired in temperature around 900 Celsius degrees to melt the enamel powder in place and hard enough. Besides, only with firing will the enamel luster be revealed to achieve the quality it devotes to. - Polishing: After polishing, hard enamel must be ground |
